Making the Solar House at Red Wiggler

Help kick-off the unofficial start of summer the Slow Food way, with farm volunteering and a barbecue at Red Wiggler Community Farm!Date: Monday, May 27, 2013Time: Arrive at the farm at 10:30am, finish around 2:30pm.Location: Red Wiggler Community Farm, 234000 Ridge Rd. Germantown, MD, 20876Cost: $15 for members, $20 for non-members, plus fees.Red Wiggler Community Farm is a different kind of farm. As their tagline says, they are "creating fertile ground to nourish a healthy and inclusive community."  A working farm that operates a CSA in Montgomery County, the farm creates  jobs for adults with developmental disabilities, helping them succeed in meaningful work while growing high quality vegetables, herbs and flowers. We at Slow Food DC think that's amazing, so we are happy to announce that we will be heading there on Memorial Day to help them plant sweet potatoes, followed by a barbecue highlighting local, seasonal items. (We hear there might be barbecued goat!) Be sure to wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Also, don't forget water, sunscreen, and big hats! Children are welcome but the farm asks you leave your pets at home.We know it's a trek, so email info@slowfooddc.org if you are looking for a ride or could offer one. We shall do our best to coordinate. We always welcome potluck contributions, but don't feel obliged. There will be plenty of selections for vegetarians.[mapsmarker marker="9"]Learn more about the great work at Red Wiggler:
