RSVP to kawarnes_at_yahoo.com, using the subject line“Sept.25 Slow Food Volunteer Day.” and plan on bringing a dish to share.About the Neighborhood Farm Initiative (NFI):NFI is on a half acre urban farm site just a few minutes walk from the Ft. Totten metro station (red, green, yellow lines). The garden is an educational center that has two components: The first is a season long course for which each student gets a small plot, and the second is a “learn-by-doing” approach, in which the majority of the work in the field is done by volunteers who have an interest in urban agriculture. Volunteers range broadly in age, experience, and interests. To get to the garden from the Fort Totten metro station, turn left (north) and walk up the sidewalk past where the buses stop. Across from the parking lot and after some trees, you’ll see a paved path going up over a slight hill on your left (going north). Take that path across a field and you’ll see the NFI at the top of the hill! (If you google-map 100 Gallatin Street NE, you’ll see the field from thesatellite view and the path that connects Gallatin street to the metro stop.)
