Upshur Garden Day

Our first major Share a Seed event kicked off this past Sunday in the perfect place - the garden! Slow Food DC partnered with Upshur Community Garden and Ward 4 Mutual Aid to host a day of seeding community, sharing, and engagement.

Our 50+ attendees, which included local ANC Commissioners and Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, were treated to a beautiful spring day in the garden where they learned about what's growing in Upshur's freshly planted plots and new greenhouse. We were also treated to some un-BEE-lievably great pollinator information thanks to a visit from the Upshur Community Garden Beekeepers!

Slow Food DC collected dozens of packets and pouches of seeds from gardeners and guests - plus some great gardening equipment! This was combined with an impressive collection of donations of clothing and other household items collected for Ward 4 Mutual Aid.

We capped off the day in true Slow Food style with an outdoor Happy Hour sponsored by Lyman's Tavern.

In case you missed this chance to donate your seeds and gently used gardening equipment, you can learn more about other local Share a Seed events (or find out where to mail your donation) here.
