Coffee Cupping with Vigilante Coffee
Since our last cupping with Vigilante Coffee was so popular, we thought we'd do it again! It's been said that coffee is the second most valuable traded commodity after oil. Over 150 million Americans drink coffee every day. Yet the cultivation of coffee, only possible in the global South, remains a labor intensive and often small-farmer led endeavor. While most of the production of coffee remains in developing countries, western industrial nations are by far the largest consumers of coffee. We, as Americans, have a responsibility to understand the implications of our daily caffeine fix.Yet there are responsible sources for coffee out there, and Chris Vigilante is one of them. By sourcing directly with farmers growing quality coffee, he is able to bring Washington DC an excellent cup of coffee while letting more of the resources go to the farmers directly. As a consumable, coffee is much like wine and chocolate in that its flavor is complex. From the terroir of where it is grown to the various processing and roasting provided by artisanal masters, each cup of coffee has distinct and unique characteristics in smell, taste, aftertaste, notes, mouthfeel and more. Faced with such a variety of coffees out there, a taste education program like this can help you to navigate the sometimes bewildering array of coffees out there.Event: Coffee Cupping with Vigilante CoffeeDate: Saturday, August 3, 2013Time: 11:ooam to noonLocation: Vigilante’s Pop-up Coffee Shop, 1017 7th St NW, Washington DC 20001 (conveniently located by the Green/Yellow Mt.
