Since then, we've seen dozens of local farms, artisans, restaurants, beverage producers, markets, and other foodies rewarded for their commitment to quality, authenticity, and sustainability in bringing us delicious food and beverages. The Slow Food DC board is finalizing our list for the 2013 Award recipients. If you recall, we opened nominations to the public at our 2012 Award Party. Since that time, we have received many wonderful candidates. Once finalized, the winners will be notified and the names announced. These winners will join prior winners to guide you to good, clean, fair food in the national capital region. And about that party--it's stacking up to be quite the amazing event! We've moved the date up a bit to enjoy the wonderful weather September in Washington provides. Jackson 20's large courtyard will be an excellent venue for the planned pig roast, graciously provided by Longview Farm. Susan Soorenko, owner of Moorenko's Ice Cream will provide ice cream, naturally! It's given that the menu will reflect what is seasonal at the time of the party, so look for updates closer to the date. But rest assured it will be an event worthy of Slow Food members. Included in the ticket are two specially-crafted drinks. We'll also have a silent auction, with proceeds helping the Slow Food DC chapter fulfill its mission.Chef Brian McPherson, the executive chef at Jackson 20, was the executive sous chef at Poste Moderne Brasserie, where we held the Snail of Approval Launch Party in 2010 and the first Award Party in 2011. We are thrilled that he offered to host the 2013 party. Please, don't wait to get your tickets! Last year sold out quickly, so don't delay!
